The Emperor of Rome

Marcus is known as a drunken fool who left school at ten, a reputation that makes others overlook him. Beneath that act, however, he is the Dark Gladius, a legendary warrior who has concealed his abilities while investigating the death of his mother. His hidden identity gives him strength, but revealing it could change how everyone sees him. When the old Caesar announces a colosseum battle, Marcus finds an opening to move closer to his goal. The contest may let him demonstrate what he can do, yet using his powers could expose the truth he has guarded. As Marcus seeks revenge against his stepmother, Flavia, he must balance his performance as a wastrel with the warrior he really is. The battle brings his false identity, his family conflict, and the possibility of a public revelation into the same arena.
